چکیده

Background Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography is nonionizing and has been demonstrated to be a reliable tool for scoliosis assessment, including coronal sagittal curvatures. It shows great potential axial vertebral rotation (AVR) evaluation, yet its validity reliability need further demonstrated. Materials Methods Twenty patients with adolescent idiopathic (AIS) (coronal Cobb: 26.6 ± 9.1°) received 3D ultrasound scan twice, 10 were scanned by the same operator, other different operators. EOS Bi-planar x-rays conducted on another 29 day. Two experienced ultrasonographic researchers, experiences AVR measurement, evaluated of (55 curves; Cobb angle: 26.9 11.3°). The gold standard was determined from reconstruction radiographs. Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs), mean absolute difference (MAD), error measurements (SEM), Bland–Altman's bias reported evaluate intra-operator inter-operator/rater reliabilities ultrasonography. validated using inter-method that EOS. Results ICCs assessment all greater than 0.95. MAD, SEM, AVRs no more 2.2°, 2.0°, 0.5°, respectively. between both modalities strongly correlated (R2 = 0.901) not significantly (p 0.205). Bland–Altman plot also less 1°, proportional expected radiographic angles. Conclusion This study demonstrates valid in AIS patients. can screening following up subjects evaluating effectiveness nonsurgical treatments.

Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation and vertebral rotation in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

We have studied 34 consecutive patients receiving Cotrel- Dubousset instrumentation for a single and flexible thoracic scoliotic curve, evaluating the rib hump deformity from a single CT scan through the apical vertebra of the curve. Using two measures of rotation we found a mean improvement of 25% in the rotation of the vertebra after operation. Any, usually minor, deterioration occurred in th...

Comparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects

Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...

Effect of Direct Vertebral Rotation on the Uninstrumented Lumbar Curve in Thoracic Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

STUDY DESIGN Retrospective study. PURPOSE To determine the effect and direction of direct vertebral rotation (DVR) in the lowest instrumented vertebra (LIV) on the uninstrumented lumbar curve depending on the lumbar modifier used for the correction of thoracic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE DVR in the LIV should be implemented in a different direction to obtain bett...

Ultrasound measurement of vertebral rotation in idiopathic scoliosis.

Ultrasound can be used to outline the spinous processes and the laminae, and thus to measure axial rotation. Using our own technique, we measured vertebral rotation in 47 patients with idiopathic scoliosis. There was a strong linear relationship between the Cobb angle and the rotation of the apical vertebra in untreated patients, but this relationship was lost in patients who had had brace trea...

Clinical and radiological assessment of vertebral rotation in idiopathic scoliosis.

Background. Idiopathic scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine and the trunk. The principle clinical method of estimation of the rotational deformity in the transversal plane of the body is the measurement of the angle of trunk rotation with a scoliometer. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between the angle of trunk rotation and the two radiological parame...
